about us

OurJourney is a nonprofit organization created by a group of former North Carolina prisoners who met behind the razor wire, reconnected in the free world and determined together to do more than just celebrate their individual freedom.

From reentry kits to essential services, from resource guides to peer-to-peer mentoring, from one side of North Carolina to the other, OurJourney is a new approach to freedom, where being released from prison isn't just an occasion to anticipate, but also a
journey to join.

About Us.jpeg

our mission

OurJourney seeks to end the cycle of sorrow by helping the formerly incarcerated bridge the gap from prison to freedom, from their past life to their Best Life. We believe that reducing recidivism makes our communities stronger and safer, while saving millions in taxes.

our plan

OurJourney will use every tool available to reach justice-involved individuals in practical ways. This will include projects we specifically pursue as well as joining hands with others with our same values and mission. OurJourney is proud to announce our Essential Services program, which will provide life-skill mentoring to any returning citizen in North Carolina, building on the success of the First Aid Reentry Kit program that launched in the summer of 2022.

our community

A group of men formerly incarcerated at Nash Correctional Institution in Nashville, NC, all loyal friends, founded OurJourney in 2022. However, anyone who believes in our vision is invited to join us. OurJourney will make no distinction between the those we help: all who have ever experienced the pain of prison, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, crime, sexual orientation or political affiliation, are souls we believe deserve to know their true value.

our promise to our heroes

If you're a Reentry Warrior in North Carolina, whether as part of the program staff at a state prison, a state or county agency, a nonprofit organization, a faith-based ministry or a local business, we value and support you. Furthermore, we pledge to do everything we can to make sure our returning citizens know about your efforts on their behalf. They may be our #1 clients, but you're our #1 heroes.
